F&Q

What can I wear?

Anything that makes you feel comfortable, that allows you to move freely. We don't expect anyone to wear traditional dancing uniform like leotards, although you are welcome to if you please. Trainers, dance shoes, socks and bare-feet are all welcome here. Jewellery should be removed where possible to avoid risk of injury.

How many sessions can I / do I need to attend?

This will vary from project to project and you will be made aware of any commitments before joining. As a guideline for our primary project, we expect people to participate in 12 sessions over 13 weeks, to get the maximum benefit and see positive changes to their health. Everyone will have the option to continue dancing with us or our partner companies beyond this.

When and where do sessions take place?

Each project will have its own schedule, agreed with the participants prior to onboarding. Timetables are based on majority availability (you can state your availability in the application form).

Each project will be located in an accessible building along public transport routes with parking options near by. The location will be chosen by popular demand (see application form).

If the location or timetable for a certain project creates a barrier for your participation, don't worry, we will keep you on a wait list and aim to run the following project on different days / times / locations, to suit the majority of those who could not participate in the previous experience.

What type of company is this?

Untangle is a CIC (community interest comapny) meaning our work is made possible by funding and donations. All profits are reinvested in to the community and future projects. We pay our staff fairly according to the guidance outlined by the arts council.

Do I need experience?

No experience of dance or exercise is required to participate in our projects, in fact, we strongly encourage complete beginners to get involved. We aim to equip our clients with all the skills they need to benefit from the creative movement collective.

How do I sign up?

You can make a referral for yourself, or on behalf of someone else, on the home page of our website by downloading the application form, filling it in and emailing it back to us. Your case will then be assessed and you will be added to the wait list for the next project in your area that is appropriate for you.

Who can apply?

Our projects are open to adults who are actively seeking support improving their mental health. This may be due to social isolation, stress, depression or anxiety, a health condition that has impacted your wellbeing, or an event such as bereavement, trauma, sudden homelessness or unemployment that has impacted your mental health.

We do not discriminate based on race, gender, disabilities or any other categories. Should you require a support worker to attend with you or additional mobility assistance, this can be discussed.

We ask that you are open-minded to moving, creating and playing.

Our funded dance and movement projects can be a great, affordable alternative or supplement to talking therapies and medications (please consult your GP regarding concerns about medication).

At this time we are unable to take on high-risk participant who may pose a danger to staff or other attendees.
